
Legal Agreements
NOTE: We are trying to set up MRC Broadening Horizons placement agreements with each of the GW4 universities but until these are agreed, please follow the guidelines below:
As stated above, some larger Pharma/Industry placements may have their own documentation and institutions such as councils, policy internships, ONS will certainly do so. Below is the process to follow where no host documentation is in place:
Bath
A generic Broadening Horizons legal agreement for Bath can be found here.
The student and supervisor should complete the agreement and have it signed by the Head of School for the university, the host supervisor and the student. Please send a copy to the DTP Hub at gw4biomed@cardiff.ac.uk and to (TBC)
Bristol
A GW4 generic Broadening Horizons legal agreement for Bristol can be found here.

Cardiff
A generic Broadening Horizons legal agreement for Cardiff can be found here.
The student should liaise with the DTP to complete this, which should be signed by the host and the Head of School. Copies will be held by the DTP Hub and the School.
Exeter
A generic Broadening Horizons legal agreement is now in place for Exeter. The DTP Hub will forward the Placement Description Form to our contact in the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences (Exeter) PGR student support at: hls-exeter-pgrsupport@exeter.ac.uk. That team will then take forward the process of raising the legal agreement and risk assessments, in addition to any paperwork required by the host.

Risk Assessments
Bath
Students should complete the Risk Assessment form found at this link and have this signed by their supervisor and noted within your department: https://www.bath.ac.uk/legal-information/risk-assessment
They should also complete the Off-Campus Activities Notification form and return it to their Doctoral Programmes Administrator in the Doctoral College before they leave. This form will be shared with the University Security Office.
Bristol
Please find the Risk Assessment here: student-placements-gn.pdf. The student’s School are responsible for their Health and Safety, so this form should go to their supervisor when completed and signed off with their placement host. Cardiff
There is a generic Risk Assessment form at: Student placement risk assessments – Intranet – Cardiff University This link also gives students further information on required insurance but further information can be obtained from: Insurance@cardiff.ac.uk
