Summary
Mental health outcomes are socially patterned, differing by gender, race and ethnicity, disability, and socio-economic status (SES). A gap remains regarding intersectional inequalities in young people’s mental health – the way social positions − such as race, gender, and class − are not held in isolation, but overlap and interact. One under-researched group of young people is those with a disability or chronic illness, despite mental health problems being more prevalent. This PhD will examine intersectional mental health inequalities in this group using a range of methods tailored by the student to their interests, to inform policy and improve support.
