Academic requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must hold, or be about to obtain, one of the following qualifications in a relevant medical sciences field:

  • a UK first honours degree
  • a UK upper second-class honours degree
  • or an equivalent qualification from outside the UK

Those with a lower second class degree may be considered only if:

At the University of Bath, a lower second-class degree is only acceptable for PhD entry if accompanied by a master’s graded at merit level or above.

Check each project’s home institution requirements before applying. Academic qualifications are assessed alongside relevant non-academic experience.

Research background

We welcome students from non-medical backgrounds, particularly in:

  • medical sciences
  • computing
  • mathematics
  • physical sciences
