Research Theme

Neuroscience and Mental Health

Project Summary Download

Summary

The field of imaging genetics has had limited success identifying shared common risk variants between mental disorders and brain phenotypes, this being key to understanding neurobiological mechanism for ill mental health. This is partly due to the lack of biological specificity of current available brain phenotypes. We plan to implement novel methods to enhance the resolution of diffusion weighted imaging in a very large cohort (UK Biobank) utilizing data from the unique Connectome scanner at CUBRIC. This will in turn allow generating novel MRI metrics closer to brain biology, to examine their genetic makeup and overlap with mental disorders.
