Summary
How do cancers grow into space occupied by normal cells? Competition between tumour and non-tumour cells plays an important role, allowing tumour cells to eliminate normal cells and grow in their stead. Yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this interdisciplinary project, the student will investigate mechanisms controlling cell competition, breast tumour initiation and progression through combining advanced methods in genetic epidemiology with labbased cell biology techniques using cancer cell lines, pluripotent stem cells, patient-derived 3D primary organoids and in vivo models.
