Summary
Mental Health: nature or nurture? For psychiatric disorders the answer is both, but to explain how, we need to know the molecular mechanisms? Psychiatric Nutrigenomics is a new research area at the interface between mental health genomics and dietary metabolism that aims to address this question. As a case study, you will investigate FADS2, a psychiatric risk gene that is required for PUFA metabolism, establishing how genetics and fatty acid metabolism interact to increase psychiatric risk. You will receive interdisciplinary skills training in data science, bioinformatics, AI tools and human stem cell techniques, working with GW4 and international research partners.
